Abstract:
This study assesses the spatial efficiency of the Oran tramway using an integrated GIS-based approach combining service area analysis, network accessibility, population density, and public facility distribution. Network analysis, Inverse Distance Weighted (IDW) interpolation, Kernel Density Estimation, and Ripley’s K-function were applied to identify well-served and underserved areas within a 2 km corridor along the tramway line. Results show that 57% of the study area lies within 750 m of tramway stops, while 25% is located beyond 1,000 m and is relatively underserved. Central and densely populated neighbourhoods have the best coverage, with an average population density of 101.32 inhabitants per 100 m² within 300 m of stops. About 28% of public facilities are located in areas with very high service coverage (<300 m), particularly sports, educational, and cultural facilities, whereas healthcare and administrative services are underrepresented. Ripley’s K-function confirms significant clustering of public facilities around tramway stops. The findings highlight the need for more equitable multimodal planning, particularly in peripheral underserved areas, to improve spatial justice and system performance.
